Three poems for moving on

To leaf-green happiness

Three poems for moving on

Peace to those who are
so close to closure
but the next step
is the impossible one

Dialing the phone
to say you’re sorry
or you accept their apology
or you can’t remember
what the fight was about

Or deleting their number
because you’ve talked yourself hoarse
and just want
peace.

Peace to the tired, the foot-sore
the worn out, the bone-weary

Peace to the fatigue that sleep will help
or would if you could remember how

Peace to the exhaustion
of carrying heavy things
that were never yours to carry

Peace to the day
you finally learn
to put them down.

Peace to blue sadness
settled in the pit of your stomach
heavy and cold

Peace to hot red anger
orange anxiety, yellow fear

Peace to the purple of old wounds
dulled with age but sharp still in dreams

Peace to leaf-green happiness
buried but regrowing
persistent as seeds
resilient as life.
