You who doubt but hope

A lenten poem

You who doubt but hope

Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedYou who followed Christ
out of the doors of that church—
You were faithful.

You who followed God
away from those who first
told you about God—
You were faithful.

You who followed love
even when you were told it was sin,
Listen to me—
You were faithful.

You who doubt, but hope
You who wander and dream
You who weep and mourn
that so many things were
not the way they seemed

You who were cast out
You who were called lost—

You did not stray from the path
You did not break the promise of your youth
You did not fall away

Your faith stayed firm to what you pledged from the start:
To truth, to love, to courage, to hope

Beloved, you were
faithful, faithful, faithful.
